The Situation
Somewhere in your messages and email is everything you’ve ever discussed with anyone — plans, promises, preferences, decisions, agreements. Thousands of conversations, years deep, split across silos that don’t talk to each other.
“Did she ever mention a favorite restaurant?” “What did we actually agree to about the deposit?” “When did he first bring up selling the house?” The honest answer to all of those, today, is: nobody knows. The record exists. You just can’t ask it anything.
The Problem Behind the Problem
The obvious AI answer is the wrong one: upload your messages and email to a cloud service and let a model read them there. This is exactly the category of data that must never leave the device. Not “encrypted in transit” — never transmitted at all. Which means the AI can’t live in the cloud. It has to live inside the app, running on the machine where the data already sits.
What We Built
A Mac app with a locally based AI built directly into the program. It mines your entire communication history — texts and email — so you can finally ask it questions and know: per contact, per date range, per topic, across everything you’ve ever talked about. No scrolling back through years of threads. No scanning thousands of texts and emails. One question, one answer.
It also spots dates and plans discussed in your conversations and offers to drop them straight into your calendar.
All of it happens on your Mac. The model runs inside the app. Your messages and email are never uploaded, never processed remotely, never seen by anyone — including us.
The Result
TextLife is live as a Mac app — and it’s more than a product. It’s proof, at consumer scale, of the architecture entire industries need: AI that works where the data lives instead of demanding the data come to it. It’s the same principle behind our Hosted AI for regulated industries — law firms, healthcare, government — running on a laptop instead of a server rack.
